Busy, Busy, Busy!
Who isn't busy this time of year?
Jesus tells us this in Matthew 11: 28-30:
This Christmas season when there are parties, and gift exchanges, and cookie swaps.
Gifts to buy, hide, wrap, and place under the tree.
Loved ones to travel to see.
If you aren't traveling, a house to clean and decorate for people to come to you.
So often in the business of this season, I forget to stop and worship.
To remember why I am celebrating. Why this time of year is so important.
In all of that crazy, I am feeling worn down this year. Tired. Weary.
So many other things are swirling around us, and they clammer for my attention.
I have to be reminded to slow down and worship.
Jesus tells us this in Matthew 11: 28-30:
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart,
and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
If you have been a Christian for any length of time, you have heard these verses. They are a balm to my soul. Jesus' words here are meant to sooth and to heal. They are meant to take that pressure we feel to be and do, and says,
"No, you don't have to!"
Our burdens are not ours. We were never meant to carry them on our own.
Rest, and know that you Savior has this under his control. You just have to follow His lead.
Take time alone with Christ. Get away from the business of this season and rest. It is much easier said than done.
Trust me! I know! But it is necessary.
Take time to remember who we serve and why we celebrate.
A baby born in a manger, who came to set us free!
